WW2 Fernhurst of Dornier 217e code U5 +Eh wing spar impact damage edge cut

These cuts are from the end of material recovered from the wreckage of “The Fernhurst of Dornier” 217e code U5 +Eh of 1 Staffel  Kampfgeschwader 2 based at Gilze-Rijen Holland (full piece shown in photos)
The aircraft was shot down after getting lost on mission over Sussex during WW2 on 8th March 1943. 
This piece was removed during one of the various digs of the site since 1989. The photo above shows the full section that was removed, likely to be from a section of wing spar.
Two of the crew namely the pilot, Gunter Vestewig and his observer, Gerhard Polzin managed to bale out successfully. Sadly the radio/op managed to bale out of the stricken bomber at the last moment but tragically left his parachute behind. He fell to his death quite near to the crash site.
The gunner, Franz Huske is believed to have been killed during the attack of the RAF nightfighter. He seems to have made no attempt to bale out. Franz is still listed in the records as MISSING IN ACTION.
These cuts live as a piece of history to commemorate those who gave their lives in this great world war.
