Monarch Airlines Bristol Britannia G-AOVT Elevator Trim Tag
The last of BOAC’s Britannia fleet VT was delivered on 1/1/59.
On 31/3/59 it inaugurated the first round the world service, flying from London to Tokyo via, New York, San Francisco, Honolulu and Wake Island.
BOAC retired its Britannia fleet in 1963 and VT was leased to British Eagle. In 1969 it was bought by the newly formed Monarch Airlines and based at Luton. It operated the last European civil passenger flight on 14/10/74. It was then leased to Invicta Airlines who used it for cargo flights until 3/75.
On 29/6/75 it made its last flight on delivery to the Duxford Aviation Society, arriving during an airshow.
Tags are from an elevator trim tab damaged by an Army vehicle at another airshow in the 70’s.
